On behalf of the Karuna Board, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Lea-Anne Tuaoi as Karuna’s new Chief Executive Officer. Lea-Anne will commence duties this Monday, 8 January.
Many of you know that Lea-Anne is Karuna’s Director of Clinical Services and has served us exceptionally well in that role since February 2015. Lea-Anne’s appointment follows an extensive executive search process.
The Board is confident that Lea-Anne will bring continuity and strong leadership to Karuna in the role of Chief Executive as we expand and grow our services, while ensuring that we continue to put the needs of our clients and their families at the forefront of all that we do.
Lea-Anne is highly respected at Karuna for her leadership skills, compassion and specialist expertise in end-of-life care. Lea-Anne has worked in the palliative care sector for 29 years in Queensland and New South Wales.
As Karuna’s Director of Clinical Services, Lea-Anne established and implemented the nurse practitioner model of care and nurse practitioner led service, which at the time was a first for palliative care in Queensland.
Lea-Anne has managed Karuna’s clinical services team, which includes psychosocial, nursing, clinical administration and spiritual care staff, ensuring the team works collaboratively for the benefit of all our clients and their families. She has had overall responsibility for clinical governance of all of Karuna’s clients and their families, which includes symptom management, assessment, prescribing and support for clinical nurses.
Prior to joining Karuna, Lea-Anne worked as a Nurse Practitioner for Queensland Health from 2010 to 2015. She is currently undertaking a Doctorate of Nurse Practitioner at the University of Canberra and completed a Master’s Degree of Nursing – Nurse Practitioner in 2009 from Queensland University of Technology.
Lea-Anne is wholly supportive of Karuna’s philosophy of kindness and compassion – delivering holistic support that enables our clients to die with dignity and embrace uncertainty and change.
In accepting the Board’s offer, Lea-Anne said she was honoured and excited to be given the opportunity to lead a team of compassionate and skilled staff and volunteers.
The Board looks forward with confidence that under Lea-Anne’s leadership Karuna will thrive and continue to deliver our holistic care program in conjunction with volunteers, donors, partners and our valued staff.
